At the onset of blogging, it was a reserve for teenagers. But it didn’t take so long before people caught up to the real power of blogs as a way to make money on the internet. I personally started blogging in 2009 and I have never looked back since then. I do it for fun while at the same time making an extra income from it.
This post will share with you some of the ways in which I make money blogging.
Affiliate marketing
You have probably heard that affiliate marketing is the easiest and fastest way to start making money online. Well that is true, but if you combine that with blogging, then you have got a really strong combination.
I have already written a post on how to make money online affiliate marketing. It is simply an agreement between a product owner and his/her affiliates to share revenue generated from sales referred by the affiliate.
I personally use affiliate marketing as a way to make money on my blogs. Some affiliate programs allow their affiliates to choose the option of cheque payments instead of PayPal and these are the ones you will consider joining since PayPal is not yet fully available in Kenya. Like I said in the post on using PayPal in Kenya, you can only receive cash in PayPal but you can’t withdraw it to a Kenyan bank account yet.
Google Adsense
Another popular way to make money on your blog is to add Adsense ads. Adsense program is owned by Google and is actually a partnership between Google and webmasters and bloggers where Google adds advertisements on their blog and shares with them the revenue generated from the ads. When people click the ads you receive a cut of the revenue.

This is often not a cash powerhouse but a cheque of $100+ from Google from time to time would definitely justify the means.
Selling advertisement space is also a great way to make money blogging. As your blog becomes popular, you can start selling advertisement space.
As your blog grows, you will soon find that advertisers are all over when you start receiving advertising offers in your email such as this one:
Just awhile ago, I received $300 offer to mention a certain Russian company on my blog. This is by all standards not a huge amount considering that popular blogs charge up to $800 for a mention or review, but at least it serves as evidence that you can actually make money blogging in Kenya. You can also add small graphic asking people and companies to “advertise here” on your blog.
These are the ways I personally use to make money on my blogs. The secret of successful blogging is huge traffic (visitors) and useful content for your readers.
